THE STARTER REPORTED: a) PAST AND PRESENT (JP van der Merwe) nudged the front gate open shortly before the start was effected, which resulted in a false start being called. b) GLOBAL SPEAK (O Noach) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly before the start was effected, PAST AND PRESENT (JP van der Merwe) nudged the front gates open, which resulted in the Starter calling a false start. With the exception of CELTIQUE (J Solomons), SET TO MUSIC (A Fortune), GLOBAL SPEAK (O Noach) and PAST AND PRESENT (JP van der Merwe), which were restrained at the 1400m, the balance of the field was restrained after a short distance. All runners returned to the start, were examined by the course Veterinary Surgeon and passed suitable to race. b) After being slow to begin, GLOBAL SPEAK (O Noach) over raced in the early stages. c) Jockey J Solomons reported that CELTIQUE, which over raced in the early stages, thereafter took no interest in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. d) Apprentice B Plaatjies reported that STYLE ICON was sore behind. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. e) In view of the report from the Starter regarding PAST AND PRESENT (JP van der Merwe), Trainer SJ Snaith will be advised to have this gelding re-schooled prior to his next engagement in terms of Rule 61.6.10. f) JET A ONE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer D McLachlan was advised.
