EN ROUTE TO THE START, DECEPTION PASS (*K J LIHABA) CAST ITS LEFT FRONT SHOE WHICH WAS ATTENDED TO BY THE COURSE FARRIER. THEREAFTER, THE BRIDLE ON RICHARD THE FIRST (G LERENA) BROKE AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE REPLACEMENT BRIDLE BROKE AND THE STARTER WAS UNABLE TO SOURCE A SUITABLE REPLACEMENT BRIDLE. RICHARD THE FIRST WAS SUBSEQUENTLY SCRATCHED FOR DELAYING THE START. THESE INCIDENTS CAUSED A DELAY TO THE START OF THIS RACE.
