Stipes Report
Due to a technical fault with the starting stalls, the start of this race was effected manually. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) VILA VICOSA (B Marx-Jacobson) lost 3 lengths and thereafter was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) EL REY VIENE (S Veale) over-raced in the early and middle stages. b) Leaving the 150m BAD MEDICINE (G Lerena) was carried in marginally by EL REY VIENE (S Veale) which rolled in away from ARVERNI KING (*B Plaatjies) which was hanging in from the 350m, proving difficult to assist from the 200m. Thereafter, in the concluding stages BAD MEDICINE (G Lerena) was tightened and steadied between VILA VICOSA (B Marx-Jacobson) and EL REY VIENE (S Veale) which rolled in away from ARVERNI KING (*B Plaatjies). c) In view of the performances of ANGEL OF MY HEART (M Yeni) (10.05 lengths, 33/1 in the betting) and HARUN AL RASHID (S Khumalo) (7.35 lengths, 10/1 in the betting), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. d) REGULATION (J P v'd Merwe), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer J S Snaith was advised (SP). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) Jockey R Danielson (CHILL IN THE AIR) weighed out at 57.3kg, 0.5kg over the carded weight. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER : a) Nil.
