EN ROUTE TO THE START, JOCKEY G LERENA WAS STRUCK ON THE HEAD BY GIMMEANOTHERCHANCE AND WAS DISLODGED. HE WAS ATTENDED TO BY COURSE PARAMEDICS. GIMMEANOTHERCHANCE BOLTED FOR A SHORT DISTANCE, WAS TAKEN IN HAND, EXAMINED BY THE COURSE VETERINARY SURGEON AND PASSED FIT TO RACE. A REPLACEMENT RIDER WAS SOUGHT AND DISPATCHED TO THE START. THIS INCIDENT CAUSED A SIGNIFICANT DELAY TO THE START OF THIS RACE. 
JOCKEY G LERENA WAS TRANSFERRED TO THE MEDICAL CENTRE WHERE HE WAS PASSED FIT TO CONTINUE RIDING.

THE STARTER REPORTED:
a)	HAT TRICK OR TREAT (J Mariba) jumped awkwardly inwards leaving the stalls.
b)	WHITE PEARL (C Zackey) and GIMMEANOTHERCHANCE (J Penny) were slow into stride.

c)	In view of the performance of ATTICUS FINCH (C Habib), (distance 6,05 lengths, betting 10/1), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.	
d)	MUSICAL SCORE (C Maujean), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
