Stipes Report
DURING THE LOADING PROCESS, JOCKEY M YENI (KIA KAHA) WAS INJURED IN THE STARTING STALLS. JOCKEY M YENI WAS EXAMINED BY THE COURSE PARAMEDICS AND WAS PASSED FIT TO CONTINUE RIDING. KIA KAHA WAS REMOVED FROM THE STARTING STALLS, EXAMINED BY THE COURSE VETERINARY SURGEON AND PASSED FIT TO RACE. THIS INCIDENT, AS WELL AS THE DELAY IN THE PREVIOUS RACE, CAUSED A DELAY TO THE START OF THIS RACE. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) WHISTLE THE TUNE (C Zackey) jumped awkwardly leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) As the start was effected, Jockey C Zackey (WHISTLE THE TUNE) made contact with the right-side front gate. b) In view of the performance of QUASIKAT (K Matsunyane), (distance 7,30 lengths, betting 13/2), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. c) In view of the performance of SIMPLY MAJESTIC (S Khumalo), (distance 7,55 lengths, betting 14/1), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. d) Jockey M Yeni reported that he felt something amiss with KIA KAHA in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. e) COSMIC QUEEN (G Lerena), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer J J van Vuuren advised (MS). Race 8 contd. JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) VIRGIN RIVER new ownership: Mauritzfontein (Pty) Ltd (Nom: Mrs J B Jell) and Greenacres Trust (Nom: Mr N M Shirtliff), colours: Black, yellow sash, sleeves and cap (Sold with engagement). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) SIMPLY MAJESTIC examined post race, nothing obvious detected. b) QUASIKAT not striding out. c) KIA KAHA mouth injury; brush wound right hind. d) MIST IN SCOTLAND blowing post race. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS. DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: None.
