Stipes Report

THE STARTER REPORTED:

a)	FATE OF PACE (*S Bungane) jumped awkwardly.
b)	LUCKY THIRTEEN (O Noach) jumped slow, losing one length.
c)	MONEY EXTRACTOR (J Solomons) was slow into stride.

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:

a)	When questioned Jockey J Solomons (MONEY EXTRACTOR) told the Stewards that his instructions were to obtain a forward position after leaving the starting stalls but after a slow start, this filly had not responded to his riding and he decided to race from a trailing position to avoid being caught wide, as he would possibly have been if he had continued his endeavour to obtain a handy position. He added that the filly had been carried out wide on the turn at the 1500m by SWEETSUMMERLOVE (L Mxothwa), which had shifted out away from FATE OF PACE (*S Bungane) and that this had contributed to him racing a couple of lengths off the second last horse at that stage. When questioned regarding the vigour of his riding in the home straight, he responded by saying that his crop had nearly fallen out of his grasp and he had to ensure that he retained this equipment before commencing with a hard ride until the finish. He added that he had not had clear running in the closing stages and had to direct his mount outwards to obtain clear running. His explanation was noted.
b)	The Stewards had reason to interview Riders G Wright (BEIRA), L Mxothwa (SWEETSUMMERLOVE) and S Veale (HAY FEVER) concerning an incident approaching the 1600m, where SWEETSUMMERLOVE (L Mxothwa) was awkwardly placed and had to be steadied. After hearing evidence from the three Riders and reviewing the patrol films from various angles, it was concluded that although HAY FEVER (S Veale) had been ridden forward and had shifted inwards, he was not in a position to provide relief to SWEETSUMMERLOVE (L Mxothwa), which was positioned on the outside of BEIRA (G Wright) as there was a slight inward movement from STYLE ICON (*B Plaatjies), which raced in advance of these horses and had a bearing on this incident. Jockey Veale was however advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future.
c)	Jockey G Wright reported that BEIRA took no interest in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly.
d)	In view of the performances of HAY FEVER (S Veale) and FUTURE PROSPECT (C Orffer), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine these fillies.
e)	SWEETSUMMERLOVE (L Mxothwa) returned with a bilateral epistaxis due to an exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage and is suspended for a period of 60 days from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa in terms of Rule 93.1. (Dr J de Villiers)
f)	BENEATH THE CLOUDS, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer M Rix was advised. (WM)
