Stipes Report

THE STARTER REPORTED:

a)	WILD FIG (R Fourie) was stubborn loading.
b)	STAR OF ELENA (C Zackey) and YOU'RE SO SPECIAL (*I Taka) were nervous in the stalls.
c)	THE QUAICH (S Khathi) was nervous in the stalls jumped slow, losing one length.
d)	WORLD OF DIAMONDS (L Mxothwa) jumped awkwardly outwards and made contact with the left side of the front gate leaving the stalls.
e)	DANCING FIRELIGHT (S Naidoo) was slow into stride. 

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: 

a)	THE QUAICH (S Khathi) was reluctant to proceed to the start and stood at the 1000m. A Handler led this colt to the start. Trainer K Mitchley was advised that should this colt behave in a similar manner in future engagements, he may be suspended. 
b)	THE QUAICH (S Khathi) was carried out by NUCLEAR POWER (C Habib), which was in turn carried out by DANCING FIRELIGHT (S Naidoo), which raced green and shifted outwards sharply at approximately the 900m.
c)	BUFFALO BILL (C Maujean) was hanging in from the 400m.
d)	In view of the performance of THE QUAICH (S Khathi), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this colt. 
Jockey S Khathi appeared before the Board and was questioned as to the reason he did not persevere with his riding from the 100m. He advised that THE QUAICH exhibited signs of tiring quickly from approximately the 400m and failed to respond to his urgings. As a consequence, he did not persevere with his riding from the 100m. Jockey S Khathi was advised to ride his mounts to the finish, at least hand and heels, so as to leave  no room for query from the Stewards.
Trainer K Mitchley was advised to report back should she find anything amiss with this colt on his return to the stables.
e)	STAR OF ELENA, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer DG Smith, acting on behalf of Trainer GD Smith, was advised. (LM)
