Stipes Report

THE STARTER REPORTED:

a)	DU MAURIER (A Domeyer) was restless in the stalls.
b)	WORLD VICTORY (S Veale) and CLOUDS CLEARING (M Yeni) bumped leaving the stalls and thereafter WORLD VICTORY (S Veale) was slow into stride.

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:

a)	CLOUDS CLEARING (M Yeni), which raced green, took an awkward stride at the 1000m.
b)	Leaving the 800m WAVE WALKER (G Wright), which raced green, was directed outwards and into clear running. Thereafter, Jockey G Wright reported that WAVE WALKER did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly.
c)	Jockey G van Niekerk reported that he felt something amiss with LILAC IN WINTER and eased this filly up from the 150m. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
When questioned regarding his riding of LILAC IN WINTER, Jockey G van Niekerk told the Stewards that this filly had faltered on a number of occasions and, in his opinion, may not have enjoyed the heavy underfoot conditions. However, he was still convinced that there may be something amiss with this filly.
The Stewards, acting in terms of Rule 49.7 and taking into account the Veterinary Surgeon's report, have suspended LILAC IN WINTER, pending a veterinary certificate.
d)	In view of the performance of MY DEAR FRIEND (A Fortune), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly.
e)	DU MAURIER, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Bass-Robinson was advised. (KG)
