Stipes Report
THE START OF THIS RACE WAS DELAYED DUE TO RICHARD THE FIRST (P STRYDOM) PROVING RELUCTANT TO PROCEED TO THE START AND HAVING TO BE LED BY A HANDLER. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) THUNDERBIRD (*T Mayhew) and SEA SHANTY (P Mxoli) jumped inwards leaving the stalls. b) SAIL THE SKY (*G Samo-Burthia) jumped awkwardly leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) En route to the start, TURBO POWER dislodged Jockey C Zackey and bolted to the back parade ring. This gelding was taken in hand, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and subsequently scratched with an injured mouth. b) RICHARD THE FIRST (P Strydom) proved reluctant to canter to the start. Trainer J M Vermeulen was advised that should this gelding behave in a similar manner in future, he may be suspended. c) Shortly after the start, KISSHOTEN (G Lerena) and STREISAND (K A Brewer) were bumped in by THUNDERBIRD (*T Mayhew), which jumped inwards leaving the stalls. d) Shortly after the start, BIRTHRIGHT (C Habib) was bumped in by SEA SHANTY (P Mxoli), which jumped inwards leaving the stalls. e) After racing in advance of the field, THUNDERBIRD (*T Mayhew) tired badly from 300m and Apprentice T Mayhew did not persevere with his riding in the concluding stages. In view of this report, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. f) RICHARD THE FIRST (P Strydom), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer J M Vermeulen advised (MS). JOCKEY CHANGES: a) SEA SHANTY was ridden by Jockey P Mxoli (declared 26 June 2025 at 15H15). b) THUNDERBIRD: Apprentice T Mayhew weighed out at 54,2kg, only claiming 0.5kg of apprentice allowance as declared. Race 9 contd. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: None. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) THUNDERBIRD examined post race, nothing obvious detected. Veterinary report required prior to racing.
