Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) On arriving at the start Jockey R Fourie expressed concern with NORTH STAR's action while proceeding to the start. This filly was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and withdrawn. b) ROCK OF FUTURA (C Little) was stubborn loading. c) AUGUSTA ROSSO (X Ndlovu) was stubborn loading and thereafter was slow into stride. d) ABOVE THE HORIZON (L Mxothwa) was nervous in the stalls. e) AIR BORN LADY (*N Nastili) jumped awkwardly inwards and made contact with READY (C Zackey), which jumped awkwardly and made contact with the right side of the starting stall gate leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) ABOVE THE HORIZON recorded a TCO2 concentration of more than 36 mmol/L. Trainer SB Kotzen was advised that a second blood specimen would be collected. This specimen was of an acceptable TCO2 level. b) The start of this race was delayed to allow the betting public to restructure their bets. c) AIR BORN LADY (*N Nastili), which was hanging in, shifted inwards from the 400m. d) ROCK OF FUTURA (C Little) raced green. e) ABOVE THE HORIZON (L Mxothwa) shifted outwards away from the crop at approximately the 200m and was immediately corrected. f) Jockey X Ndlovu appeared before the Board and was questioned regarding the vigour with which he rode AUGUSTA ROSSO in the straight. The Board advised Jockey X Ndlovu that he could have exerted more vigour in encouraging his mount to run on earlier than he had on this occasion. The Board further observed that Jockey X Ndlovu had pulled his crop at approximately the 150m to encourage his mount, AUGUSTA ROSSO had responded rapidly and, as a consequence, this filly had obtained 2nd place. In view of this, the Board advised Jockey X Ndlovu to ride his mount in an appropriate manner and to give it an opportunity earlier in the race to obtain a better position. Jockey Ndlovu was further warned that should he ride his mounts in a similar manner in future engagements, the Board may consider stronger measures. g) READY, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer DG Smith, acting on behalf of Trainer GD Smith, was advised.
