Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) LUCKY THIRTEEN (O Noach) jumped slow, losing two lengths. b) FORT IMPREZA jumped inwards and unbalanced Jockey M Yeni. c) GIMME THE BEST (JP van der Merwe) jumped slow, losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Jockey R Fourie sought permission from the Stewards to stand down for the remainder of his rides. He expressed his concerns with the condition of the track which, in his opinion, made it unsafe for him to continue riding. The Stewards, after careful consideration, acceded to Jockey R Fourie's request even though in their opinion the track, whilst heavy, was still suitable for racing. The Stewards, however, accepted that each rider has the right of choice when it comes to their personal safety and wellbeing. Jockey R Fourie was replaced by Jockey C Orffer in this race. b) The Stewards interviewed Jockeys S Veale (RED STATE) and C Bantam (MARINE MERCHANT) regarding an incident that occurred approaching the 400m where RED STATE (S Veale) shifted in. Jockey C Bantam told the Stewards that while he had been briefly inconvenienced on the inside of RED STATE (S Veale), he was of the opinion that he had not fully secured a run on the inside of RED STATE (S Veale) and was close to the heels of RARE EARTH (C Orffer) when this incident occurred. After reviewing this incident, the Stewards accepted this explanation. However, Jockey S Veale was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. c) RARE EARTH (C Orffer) over raced on the turn. d) NOT WANTED, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer VH Marshall was advised.
