Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) MOTHERSHIP (X Ndlovu) was unruly, nervous in the stalls, was taken out, examined by the course Veterinary Surgeon, passed suitable to race and reloaded. Thereafter, MOTHERSHIP (X Ndlovu) fly-jumped leaving the stalls and was slow into stride. b) BEER WITH THE BOYS (R Fourie) was nervous in the stalls, hit the front gates and was slow into stride. c) TAKE YOUR TIME (*J Botes) jumped slow, losing one length. d) RAINBOW OF ROSES (S Fortune) and GARDENER'S PRIDE (K Steyn) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) RAINBOW OF ROSES recorded a TCO2 concentration of more than 36 mmol/L. Trainer SB Kotzen was advised that a second blood specimen would be collected. This specimen was of an acceptable TCO2 level. b) A BIT CHILLY (C Habib) and GARDENER'S PRIDE (K Steyn) over raced in the early and middle stages. c) BEER WITH THE BOYS (R Fourie) had to steady at the 1800m when awkwardly placed on the inside of GARDENER'S PRIDE (K Steyn), which over raced and shifted inwards slightly. d) TAKE YOUR TIME (*J Botes), on which the saddle slipped forward in running (confirmed by the Stipendiary Stewards), had to steady off the heels of GARDENER'S PRIDE (K Steyn) at approximately the 600m. e) Jockey R Fourie eased BEER WITH THE BOYS out of the race at the 600m and thereafter reported that this gelding did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. f) GARDENER'S PRIDE (K Steyn) had to steady and made contact with the hindquarters of A MONTH OF SUNDAYS (*N Nastili), which shifted inwards marginally when carried outwards by RAINBOW OF ROSES (S Fortune), which shifted outwards at approximately the 250m. Jockeys S Fortune and Apprentice N Nastili appeared before the Board and were advised to straighten their mounts timeously when shifting ground. g) A BIT CHILLY (C Habib) shifted in away from the crop and was corrected shortly before the finish line. h) Jockey X Ndlovu reported that he felt something amiss with MOTHERSHIP. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this mare. i) In view of the report from the Starter regarding MOTHERSHIP (X Ndlovu), Trainer SB Kotzen will be advised to have this mare re-schooled prior to her next engagement in terms of Rule 61.6.10. j) ORANJEMUND, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer JP Nel was advised.
