THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) The placed Riders were spoken to regarding their obligation to present themselves to be weighed in by the Clerk of Scales immediately after pulling up their horses. Race Coast Western Cape Presenters were also spoken to regarding this matter and reminded of the provisions of Rule 66.1. b) COSMIC RHYTHM (O Noach) proved difficult to settle in the early stages. c) Approaching the 1300m GOLD INDEX (K Steyn) was steadied briefly when close to the heels of MELA STRENGTH (*B Plaatjies). d) Approaching the 100m HIAWATHA GOLDBERG (C Orffer), which was hanging out, was steadied when awkwardly placed on the inside of the heels of NARETOI (L Mxothwa), which shifted in. Jockey L Mxothwa (NARETOI) appeared before the Board and was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future. e) BATON ROUGE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
