Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) On arriving at the start Jockey G Lerena expressed concern with the action of ELUSIVE WINTER while proceeding to the start. This filly was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed suitable to race. b) TANNERON (JP van der Merwe) jumped slow, losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) FLYING FINLEY (G Wright) was hanging in from the 400m and Jockey G Wright ceased with his riding of this gelding from the 50m when, in the opinion of the Stewards, circumstances permitted him to do so. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. Jockey G Wright was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.3 in that as the rider of FLYING FINLEY, he failed to ride FLYING FINLEY out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards. Jockey G Wright signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined R1000.00. b) Jockey G Lerena reported that ELUSIVE WINTER felt uncomfortable in its action. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. c) The Stewards had reason to question Jockeys L Mxothwa (ROMAN AGENT) and G van Niekerk (KYALAMI GIRL) with regard to an incident at the 200m. It was established that TANNERON (JP van der Merwe) was bumped by KYALAMI GIRL (G van Niekerk), which was steadied outwards when close to the heels of ROMAN AGENT (L Mxothwa), which was switched out to continue its run. The Stewards, after questioning Jockeys G van Niekerk and L Mxothwa, established that KYALAMI GIRL (G van Niekerk) had been steadied in anticipation of being close to the heels of ROMAN AGENT (L Mxothwa), which had been switched out further than anticipated when FLYING FINLEY (G Wright) had rolled outwards. The Stewards advised both Riders that this incident was of concern but would indulge them the benefit of the doubt whether there was sufficient clearance afforded to KYALAMI GIRL (G van Niekerk) when ROMAN AGENT (L Mxothwa) was switched outwards. They were reminded that horses should be directed into clear running only when there is sufficient room and that this would ensure that there is the requisite standard of jockey safety and horse welfare to all participants. d) THE US OF A, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer PP Kruyer was advised. (SC) JOCKEY AND/OR EQUIPMENT CHANGES: a) *B Plaatjies (PEACE OF MIND) only claimed 1kg of his 1.5kg allowance (52.1kgs) RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER a) Nil THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) ELUSIVE WINTER - examined post-race. Nothing obvious detected b) FLYING FINLEY - examined post-race. Nothing obvious detected THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS
