Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) TRIDENT KING (*T Mayhew) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) At approximately the 600m, TOMMY SHELBY, which commenced to hang out, was corrected by Jockey J Gates and as a result, shifted in away from the crop. b) In the concluding stages, COPPER EAGLE (K Matsunyane) was steadied in anticipation of being awkwardly placed on the heels of TOMMY SHELBY (J Gates), which hung out. An objection was lodged by Jockey K Matsunyane on behalf of the second-placed horse, COPPER EAGLE, against the winner, TOMMY SHELBY (J Gates), on the grounds of interference in the concluding stages. The Board, after viewing the patrol films of the race and hearing all the evidence presented, was of the opinion that the result had not been affected by this incident and therefore overruled the Objection and allowed the Judges' result to stand. The Board deemed this objection to be unwarranted and therefore declared K Matsunyane's deposit forfeited. c) TOMMY SHELBY (J Gates), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer F P Habib advised (SM). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) UNSOLVED RIDDLE merit rating 78, mass 62kg (winner, Turffontein Racecourse, 19 July 2025). THE VETERINARY SURGEON HAD NO REPORTS. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS. DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: None.
