Stipes Report
CAPE EAGLE (S Moodley) was restless in the starting stalls. This gelding was released from the starting stalls, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and subsequently withdrawn. Some time was taken to establish if the scratched horse could be placed in a safe position where it would not be on the racecourse or close to the vicinity of the horses when they passed this point in the race. After radio communications between the Officials at the start and the Stewards, they had the requisite degree of comfort that CAPE EAGLE (S Moodley) was secure and would be attended by two handlers in this vicinity. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) CAPE EAGLE (S Moodley) was restless in the stalls and kicked the back gates. This gelding was released from the stalls, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and subsequently withdrawn. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) BLACKBERRY MALT (C F Dicken) commenced to give ground from the 1000m and thereafter Jockey C F Dicken reported that he felt something amiss with this gelding in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. b) From the 250m HOLDING THUMBS (C Little) was carried outwards for a number of horse widths when awkwardly placed on the outside of the heels of KING PELLES (S Khumalo) which commenced to hang outwards. The Stewards, when assessing this incident determined that as KING PELLES (S Khumalo) commenced to hang out, Jockey S Khumalo did change his crop into his left hand. Nevertheless, Jockey Khumalo was advised that the Stewards require him to make more of an effort to keep his mounts on a straight course. c) In view of the performance of POSITIVE ATTITUDE (T Godden) (16.60 lengths, 125/1 in the betting), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. d) KING PELLES (S Khumalo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer G van Zyl (Jnr) was advised (NS). e) HOLDING THUMBS (C Little), placed second, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer G S Kotzen was advised (DZ). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) MADISON VALLEY raced without blinkers (advised 25.07.2025/12h07). RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER : a) Nil. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED : a) POSITIVE ATTITUDE : Not striding out right and bilateral nasal discharge. b) BLACKBERRY MALT : Coughing. SCRATCHINGS : a) CAPE EAGLE : Injured in the starting stalls (Withdrawn by the Veterinary Surgeon at 16h36, 16/1 in the betting). Rule 53.5 applies. DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: a) None.
