THE STARTER REPORTED: a) QUESTION THE STARS (G Cheyne) and DUKE OF ORANGE (J P van der Merwe) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start, MR LINEBREAKER (*K A Brewer) and GLOBAL MARK (R Fourie) came together and brushed. b) GLOBAL MARK (R Fourie) over-raced in the early stages. c) HORACE SILVER (X Ndlovu) commenced to give ground to the field from the 300m. In view of this performance, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) Shortly before the finish line, QUESTION THE STARS (G Cheyne) was steadied momentarily in anticipation of being awkwardly placed between MR LINEBREAKER (*K A Brewer) and POWER SURGE (M van Rensburg), which shifted both ways away from the crop from the 300m. e) Apprentice K A Brewer reported that he felt something amiss with MR LINEBREAKER in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. f) DUKE OF ORANGE (J P van der Merwe), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer G D Smith advised (LM).
