Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) PYRO EDITION (L Mxothwa) was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed suitable to race, causing a delay. b) The noseband fitted to ONE GIANT LEAP (W Agrella) broke at the start and had to be replaced, causing a further delay. c) CHEERFUL CHARLIE B (M van Rensburg), FLASH LIGHTNING (C Maujean) and BOB (J Gates) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) CHEERFUL CHARLIE B (M van Rensburg) recorded a TCO2 concentration of more than 36 mmol/L. Trainer WGC Miller was advised that a second blood specimen would be collected. (14h46) This specimen was of an acceptable TCO2 level. b) CHEERFUL CHARLIE B (M van Rensburg), GOLDEN GREY (R Fourie) and ROCK OF FUTURA (C Little) over raced in the early and middle stages. c) BLACKBERRY BREEZE (C Habib) was hanging out from the 300m. d) PRYO EDITION (L Mxothwa) was bumped outwards by ROCK OF FUTURA (C Little) on two occasions when ROCK OF FUTURA (C Little) shifted out away from the crop between 100m and the finish. In this incident, PRYO EDITION (L Mxothwa) was unbalanced. In assessing this incident, the Board considered the margin of movement between the two horses and the fact that PYRO EDITION (L Mxothwa) rolled in slightly shortly before the finish line. Jockey C Little appeared before the Board and was advised to take stronger corrective measures to keep his mounts on a straight course in similar circumstances. e) An Inquiry has been opened into the reason ONE GIANT LEAP was presented to race with a defective noseband. f) PYRO EDITION, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer JP Nel was advised.
