Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) While being loaded, SESAME (C Little) nudged the front of the starting stalls open, was immediately restrained, returned behind the stalls, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon, passed suitable to race and reloaded. b) After being loaded, it was established that the mechanism on the back gate of UP IN FLAMES (JP van der Merwe) in stall 3 needed attention. As a consequence, the Handlers were unable to close the left side back gate. UP IN FLAMES was taken out, the back gate was attended to and UP IN FLAMES was reloaded, causing a delay. c) VIVO PER LEI (M Winnaar) jumped inwards. d) HOW RIGHT YOU ARE (K Steyn) jumped slow, losing one length. e) CHASING GOLD (M Yeni) jumped slow, losing two lengths. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) VIVO PER LEI (M Winnaar) pulled hard in the early stages. b) WEDDING VOW (R Fourie) raced wide on the early part of the turn and was allowed to race around runners and into a prominent position at the 800m. c) VIVO PER LEI (M Winnaar) was continually held up for a clear run in the straight and then had to be steadied when attempting a narrow run between WEDDING VOW (R Fourie) and TAYLOR'S VERSION (L Mxothwa), which shifted out slightly at the 100m.. d) At the 150m UP IN FLAMES (JP van der Merwe) and LA PATRONA (G Wright) were carried inwards by SESAME (C Little), which shifted in away from the crop and had to be straightened. RED STATE (*B Plaatjies), which was following, had to be steadied briefly when close to the heels of UP IN FLAMES (JP van der Merwe) as a consequence. Jockey C Little (SESAME) appeared before the Board and was advised to straighten his mounts sooner than he had on this occasion. e) SESAME, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer T Woolard, acting on behalf of Trainer GS Kotzen, was advised. (TJ) f) UP IN FLAMES, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer M Rix was advised.
