THE STARTER REPORTED: a) A fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) POLICY OF TRUTH (*B Plaatjies) and FISH EAGLE (S Sosibo) were brushed out by KING'S ISLAND (*D D Louw) which jumped outwards leaving the starting stalls. b) SEND ME (*M Mbuto) hung in from the 300m. c) Shortly before the finish RUN TO RIO (T Godden) was brushed by KING'S ISLAND (*D D Louw) which hung in from the 250m. d) In view of the performance of FISH EAGLE (S Sosibo) (20.20 lengths, 75/1 in the betting), which over-raced in the early and middle stages and commenced to give ground from the 250m, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. The Stipendiary Board has exercised the provisions of Rule 49.7, and this gelding is suspended pending a Veterinary Certificate prior to its next racing engagement. e) In view of the performance of PEMBURY (C Zackey) (13.40 lengths, 11/2 in the betting), which tired rapidly in the concluding stages, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. Assistant Trainer N Roscoe acting on behalf of Trainer D Kannemeyer will be asked to report back on the condition of PEMBURY on return to stables. f) EL REY VIENE (S Veale), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
