Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) OLIVE OYL (*S Valjalo) was fractious in the stalls and jumped awkwardly, losing three lengths. b) GLOBAL SPEAK (*T Mayhew) jumped slow, losing two lengths. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) RICHARDTHEFEARLESS recorded a TCO2 concentration of more than 36 mmol/L. Trainer Z Oosthuizen was advised that a second blood specimen would be collected. This specimen was of an acceptable TCO2 level. b) RICHARDTHEFEARLESS (*D Pillay) shifted out away from the crop and thereafter, commenced to hang outwards. c) Apprentice S Valjalo (OLIVE OYL), in the presence of the Academy Riding Masters, appeared before the Board and was advised that more attention and work is needed in order to assist her mounts to jump on terms out of the stalls. She was further questioned with regard to the manner in which she rode OLIVE OYL in the early stages of the race. Apprentice S Valjalo explained to the Board that, after losing ground at the start, she wanted to allow her mount to race where it was comfortable. As a consequence, OLIVE OYL was allowed to stride freely around runners and race to the front of the field. The Board questioned Apprentice S Valjalo as to whether it would not have been more appropriate to give her mount cover in the early stages. The Board further advised that stronger measures should be taken to obtain cover and finish her race off strongly rather than allow her mounts to stride too freely in future engagements. The Academy Riding Masters concurred with this assessment. d) In view of the report from the Starter regarding OLIVE OYL (*S Valjalo), Trainer AC Greeff will be advised to have this filly re-schooled prior to her next engagement in terms of Rule 61.6.10. e) Apprentice S Bungane was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.3 in that he failed to ride BLACKBERRY BREEZE out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards. Apprentice S Bungane signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined R1 000.00. f) FLASH LIGHTNING, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer JVA Strydom was advised.
