Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) BATTLE OFTHE BULGE (M van Rensburg), TASKMASTER (ARG) (S Moodley) and KORCULA (L Nhlapo) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) BATTLE OFTHE BULGE (M van Rensburg) proved reluctant to canter to the start. Stable Employee J Webber, acting on behalf of Trainer B Webber, was advised that should this gelding behave in a similar manner in future, he may be suspended. b) WINCHESTER (C Habib) made contact with the inside running rail at approximately the 600m. Thereafter, Jockey C Habib reported that he felt something amiss with this gelding in running. c) At approximately the 400m, KORCULA (L Nhlapo) was steadied momentarily when awkwardly placed on the heels of GONNA CATCH YOU (C Zackey), which rolled in, d) ELUSIVE RED (M Yeni) shifted both ways away from the crop from the 300m. e) Jockey C Murray felt something amiss with RIVER KITTEN in running and did not persevere with his riding from the 300m. Thereafter, Jockey C Murray reported that this gelding choked up in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. f) Approaching the 200m, BATTLE OFTHE BULGE (M van Rensburg) was brushed in by TASKMASTER (ARG) (S Moodley), which was directed inwards away from heels of OKLAHOMA SMOKESHOW (*G Samo-Burthia), which had come to the end of its run. g) Jockey C Zackey reported that GONNA CATCH YOU made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. h) ELUSIVE RED (M Yeni), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer C Botha was advised (MS). When questioned regarding the improved performance of ELUSIVE RED, Assistant Trainer C Botha could offer the Board no suitable explanation. Her attention was drawn to the Rules pertaining to In and Out running. i) OKLAHOMA SMOKESHOW (*G Samo-Burthia), placed second, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer F P Habib advised (AH). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) RIVER KITTEN raced with a cornell collar (declared 3 April 2025). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) WINCHESTER fatigued. b) RIVER KITTEN examined post race, nothing obvious detected. Veterinary report required prior to racing. Rule 49.7 applies.
