THE STARTER REPORTED: a) MARCUS AURELIUS (G Lerena) jumped slow, losing one length. b) DEVIL A SAINT (G van Niekerk) and NOON DAY GUN (L Mxothwa) jumped awkwardly. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Approaching the 1000m KWAGGA BLITZ (C Little) was steadied briefly when close to the heels of IN A TIMELY MANNER (M Yeni). Shortly thereafter GOLD DUST (C Murray), which was racing awkwardly, was steadied on the inside of IN A TIMELY MANNER (M Yeni). b) Ater interviewing Jockeys C Murray (GOLD DUST), C Little (KWAGGA BLITZ) and M Yeni (IN A TIMELY MANNER), the Stewards were satisfied that Jockey M Yeni was just sufficiently clear. However, Jockey M Yeni was advised to ensure that he is allows more racing room for runners on his inside in similar circumstances. c) Jockey C Little reported that KWAGGA BLITZ did not stride out freely and made an abnormal respiratory noise in running and he did not persevere with his riding in the latter stages. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) In view of the performance of PRIMAL INSTINCT (JP van der Merwe) (Betting 9/4; Distance 7.95 lengths), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this colt. e) MARCUS AURELIUS, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Bass was advised.
