Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) JAIPUR JEWEL (D De Gouveia), TAKAGARI (R Munger) and PLENTY OF IT (*P Mxoli) were slow losing one length. b) PORFIRIO (G Lerena) jumped outwards leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Approaching the 1400m, PORFIRIO (G Lerena) was steadied to avoid the heels of MICHELIN STAR (K Matsunyane) which shifted in when not quite clear. Jockey Matsunyane appeared before the Board regarding this incident and was advised to ensure that he has sufficient clearance before shifting ground in races. b) PORFIRIO (G Lerena) over-raced in the early stages. c) PLENTY OF IT (*P Mxoli) pulled hard proving difficult to assist in the early and middle stages and thereafter compounded from the 150m. In view of this report, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) Jockey G Lerena was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking PORFIRIO more than twelve times in the entire race. Jockey Lerena signed an Admission of Guilt and a fine of R2000 was imposed. When assessing this penalty, the Board took into consideration the number of times the crop was used (14) and Jockey Lerena's recent record with regards to this Rule and Guideline (3). e) JAIPUR JEWEL (D De Gouveia), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer M F de Kock advised (LN). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) PORFIRIO raced with a tongue tie on (declared 23 April 2022 at 08H06). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) MICHELIN STAR coughing post race. b) PLENTY OF IT examined post race, nothing obvious detected. Specimens collected for analysis. Assistant Trainer T van Rensburg advised (TL). c) JAIPUR JEWEL coughing. SCRATCHED: a) GRAND DESTINY insufficient recovery time (Trainer) (Rule 53.5 applies). DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: None.
