Stipes Report

THE STARTER REPORTED:

a)	Fair start.

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: 

a)	At the 250m IGNITE THE FIRE (JP van der Merwe), which was initially allowed to shift outwards to race on the outside of the racecourse, made contact with the outside running rail and was severely unbalanced. Thereafter, Jockey JP van der Merwe did not persevere with his riding in the latter stages and reported that he felt something amiss with this gelding. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
b)	Jockey R Fourie reported that FUTURE FREE, which did not respond to his urgings in the straight and was not persevered with in the latter stages, coughed. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this colt.
c)	Jockey S Veale was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that as the rider of TWILIGHT WARRIOR he misused his crop by striking TWILIGHT WARRIOR more than 12 times (15) which was not warranted when considering the circumstances of the race. Jockey S Veale signed an admission of guilt and was fined R10 000,00. 
d)	NOBLE HERO, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer D McLachlan was advised. (SC)
e)	COCO'S HERO, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer R Barrett, acting on behalf of Trainer J Crawford, was advised. (SC)
