Stipes Report
a) WALOYO YAMONI (A Fortune) was reluctant to load. b) BACKINTHEFASTLANE (JP van der Merwe), BLIZZARDBOY (C Little) and READY FOR THE ROAD (K Steyn) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) AIN'T NO SUNSHINE (*B Plaatjies) raced wide without cover on the turn and into the straight. b) BLIZZARDBOY (C Little) raced wide on the latter part of the turn and into the straight. c) The Stewards had reason to question Jockeys K de Melo (MERCENARY), JP van der Merwe (BACKINTHEFASTLANE) and A Fortune (WALOYO YAMONI) regarding an incident that occurred racing into the first turn at the 1200m in which MERCENARY (K de Melo) raced in restricted galloping room on the inside of WALOYO YAMONI (A Fortune) for some distance. After hearing the evidence and reviewing the patrol film, the Stewards established that WALOYO YAMONI (A Fortune) had been taking some pressure from AIN'T NO SUNSHINE (*B Plaatjies), which was attempting to secure a position closer to the inside running rail. The Stewards were satisfied that no blame could be attributed to any individual Rider and ruled this to be a racing incident. d) Approaching the 100m WALOYO YAMONI (A Fortune) rolled out and brushed BLIZZARDBOY (C Little), which in turn rolled in and brushed WALOYO YAMONI (A Fortune). e) Apprentice B Plaatjies (AIN'T NO SUNSHINE) accidentally dropped his crop approaching the 100m. f) When questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of BACKINTHEFASTLANE (JP van der Merwe) compared to this gelding's previous run on 03/12/2025, Trainer C Bass told the Stewards that on that occasion BACKINTHEFASTLANE had been slow to begin from a wide draw and as a consequence, raced out of its ground in the early stages. She further told the Stewards that in today's race the gelding had been allocated 53kgs and had drawn 1 which, in her opinion, had accounted for the improved performance. g) BACKINTHEFASTLANE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Bass was advised. (ZM) h) MERCENARY, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer L Woodruff was advised.
