THE STARTER REPORTED: a) FORT LIAM (M Yeni), O'FELLOW (K Steyn) and ERIC LIDDELL (R Fourie) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Approaching the 300m HEAVENLY PRINCE (JP van der Merwe) was held up for a number of strides behind a tiring WONDERFUL TONIGHT (C Little) and had to be directed inwards. b) Jockey JP van der Merwe reported that he felt something amiss with HEAVENLY PRINCE. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. c) In view of performance of WONDERFUL TONIGHT (C Little), which raced at the front of the field in the early stages and tired quickly in the latter stages, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) ERIC LIDDELL, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
