THE STARTER REPORTED: a) UNITED FRONT (C Little) was restless in the stalls, jumped awkwardly inwards and made contact with GIVE IT LALDY (R Fourie). As a consequence, Jockey C Little was momentarily unbalanced and UNITED FRONT was slow into stride. b) ELEGANT NOBLE (*B Plaatjies) jumped slow, losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) The saddle on THOMAS JENKINS (A Fortune) was adjusted at the start, causing a delay. b) After being slow to begin, ELEGANT NOBLE (*B Plaatjies) was taken in behind runners from its wide draw. c) Shortly after the start, SMARTEN UP (C Murray) was crowded for room between FOUDRE (C Zackey) and SCOTTISH LINKS (JP van der Merwe). d) SCOTTISH LINKS (JP van der Merwe) pulled hard in the early and middle stages. e) SMARTEN UP (C Murray) raced wide on the turn. f) In view of the performance of GIVE IT LALDY (R Fourie) (Betting 7/2; Distance 5.55 lengths), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this colt. g) FOUDRE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
