Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) DOUBLE DISTILLED (C Zackey) jumped inwards, made contact with front gate and jumped slow, losing one length. b) MELA STRENGTH (R Fourie) jumped slow, losing one length. c) AMERICAN BEAUTY (A Fortune) jumped outwards and made contact with SANSA STARK (*N Yuen). THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. (14h09) b) Leaving the 1200m DOUBLE DISTILLED (C Zackey) was allowed to race around runners and into a prominent position. c) Approaching the 200m TOTHEMOONANDBACK (G van Niekerk) was carried in marginally by DOUBLE DISTILLED (C Zackey), which shifted in away from the crop and was immediately straightened. Thereafter, at the 150m, TOTHEMOONANDBACK (G van Niekerk) was tightened for galloping room between DOUBLE DISTILLED (C Zackey) and MIDWAY (L Mxothwa) and was directed in to continue its run. d) Jockey R Fourie reported that he felt something amiss with MELA STRENGTH at the finish and immediately eased this gelding out of the race. Jockey R Fourie dismounted and MELA STRENGTH was attended to on course by the Veterinary Surgeon. e) MIDWAY, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer J Crawford was advised. (TJ) JOCKEY AND/OR EQUIPMENT CHANGES: a) R Piechulek (GOLD INDEX) rode +0.5kg. (56.3kgs) b) C Zackey (DOUBLE DISTILLED) rode +0.5kg. (55.3kgs) RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) Nil. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) MELA STRENGTH - lame right front. Rule 49.7 applies. A veterinary certificate and a gallop are required prior to acceptance. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS.
