On arrival at the start HATHIGHWAYTOTHESKY (C Habib) was subject to a late Veterinary examination. This filly was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to race. This caused a delay to the start of this race. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) POURSOMESUGARONME (K de Melo), HATHIGHWAYTOTHESKY (C Habib) and TEQUILA SKY (S Moodley) lost 1 length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED (DA) : a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. b) At the 300m HATHIGHWAYTOTHESKY (C Habib) was switched to the inside of TLADI MOTHWANA (S Veale), which rolled out, to continue its run. c) Leaving the 100m WHAT A PASSION (S Khumalo) which hung in from the 350m, briefly raced in restricted toom between the outside running rail and TLADI MOTHWANA (S Veale) which rolled out marginally. d) In view of the performance of WEST SIDE STORY (*M Mbuto) (6.15 lengths, 75/1 in the betting), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. e) Jockey S Veale was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, (Appendix E; Guideline M), in that as the rider of TLADI MOTHWANA, he misused his crop by striking this filly more than twelve times (13). Jockey S Veale signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined R2000. f) TLADI MOTHWANA (S Veale), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer W M Masawi was advised (DZ). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) Nil. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER : a) Nil. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED : a) WEST SIDE STORY : Nothing obvious detected. b) HATHIGHWAYTOTHESKY : Cut into left hind.
