Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) DOUBLE OLYMPIC (*D Pillay) and RAFIKI (S Moodley) lost 1 length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED (DA) : a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. b) MASTER SILVANO (T Godden) and RAFIKI (S Moodley) over raced in the early and middle stages. c) Approaching the 200m PEARL IN HER CROWN (M Yeni) was brushed out by BASIE RAAKVAT (N Patel) which rolled out. Thereafter, at the 150m PEARL IN HER CROWN (M Yeni) was carried out by BASIE RAAKVAT (N Patel) which shifted out. Leaving the 100m PEARL IN HER CROWN (M Yeni) and RUN TO RIO (K de Melo) bumped when racing in restricted room between the outside running rail and BASIE RAAKVAT (N Patel) which rolled out. Thereafter PEARL IN HER CROWN (M Yeni) and RUN TO RIO (K de Melo) were eased for a number of strides. During this incident Jockey K de Melo (RUN TO RIO) was accidentally struck on the arm on two occasions by Jockey M Yeni's (PEARL IN HER CROWN) crop. d) A race review was called into this incident, which was followed by an objection being lodged by Jockey M Yeni, the rider of the third-placed horse PEARL IN HER CROWN, against the second-placed horse BASIE RAAKVAT (N Patel) on the grounds of interference and intimidation over the final 250m. After considering the evidence in this matter, the Board upheld the objection and amended the Judge's result. In arriving at this decision, the Board considered the extent of the interference and that after having suffered interference PEARL IN HER CROWN (M Yeni) was making up ground rapidly on BASIE RAAKVAT (N Patel) at the finish. Jockey Yeni's deposit was refunded. e) Jockey N Patel was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7 in that as the rider of BASIE RAAKVAT, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to PEARL IN HER CROWN (M Yeni) and RUN TO RIO (K de Melo) at approximately the 70m. Jockey N Patel signed an Admission of Guilt and is suspended from riding in races for a period of seven days (Dates to be advised). f) In view of the performance of FINE DINING (M Michel) (18.10 lengths, 20/1 in the betting), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. g) PIED PIPER (S Khumalo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer W M Masawi was advised (MM). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) Nil. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER : a) Nil. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED : a) FINE DINING : Nothing obvious detected. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS : DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: a) None.
