THE STARTER REPORTED: a) APRIL FOOLS' DAY (JP van der Merwe) jumped slow, losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. (15h15) b) Leaving the 1200m ELUSIVE GIFT (M Yeni), which pulled hard in the early stages, was steadied and directed outwards when close to the heels of MONEY EXTRACTOR (G van Niekerk), which was a reluctant leader. Shortly thereafter, ELUSIVE GIFT (M Yeni) was carried outwards by MONEY EXTRACTOR (G van Niekerk), which rolled out away from the inside running rail. Jockey G van Niekerk appeared before the Board and was advised that he was expected to set a reasonable pace when racing at the front of the field. c) Approaching the 900m APRICITY (C Orffer) had to be steadied for a number of strides away from the heels of ELUSIVE GIFT (M Yeni) which, after being carried wide by MONEY EXTRACTOR (G van Niekerk), was steadied and rolled in sharply. d) Jockey JP van der Merwe reported that APRIL FOOLS' DAY did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. e) GIVEN TO FLY, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Bass was advised.
