Stipes Report

ON ARRIVAL AT THE START, LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN (C ZACKEY) COLLAPSED AND ROLLED UNDER THE RUNNING RAIL AND ENDED UP ON THE INSIDE OF THE RACETRACK. THIS GELDING GOT BACK ON HIS FEET, TOOK A FEW STRIDES AND COLLAPSED AGAIN. LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN WAS ATTENDED TO BY THE VETERINARY SURGEON, WHO CONFIRMED THAT HE WAS DECEASED DUE TO A SUSPECTED HEART ATTACK. THEREAFTER, NIGHT SKIZZLE (K DE MELO) WAS SUBJECT TO A LATE VETERINARY EXAMINATION. THESE INCIDENTS CAUSED A DELAY TO THE START OF THIS RACE.

THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) BATTLE OFTHE BULGE (L Nhlapo) jumped inwards leaving the stalls.
b) TRACKSUIT DAVE (K Strydom) jumped outwards leaving the stalls.

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels, and no retests were recorded.
b) Jockey K de Melo appeared before the Board and was asked if he could offer an explanation for the poor performance of NIGHT SKIZZLE. He stated that NIGHT SKIZZLE had been above himself in the pre-race preliminaries and had misbehaved en route to the start. Thereafter, during the running of the race, this gelding had an extremely sensitive mouth, had over-raced and hung in in the concluding stages. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
Trainer B Warren was requested to report back to the Stipendiary Board on the condition of NIGHT SKIZZLE on return to stables.
c) Jockey L Nhlapo reported that he felt something amiss with BATTLE OFTHE BULGE in running.
The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
d) Jockey C Murray (SHOREYBOMBA) appeared before the Board and was advised that although the use of his crop fell within the parameters of the current transition period, the revised use of the crop Rules and penalty framework will take effect on the 1st of April 2026.
e) In view of the Veterinary Surgeon's report concerning BATTLE OFTHE BULGE, and in terms of Rule 93.1, this gelding is suspended for 60 days from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of the National Horseracing Authority. Trainer B Webber was advised.
f) SHOREYBOMBA (C Murray), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
