THE STARTER REPORTED: a) FREE ROAMING (C Zackey) lost 1 length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED (DA) : a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. b) IN THE RED (C Habib) over raced in the early stages and thereafter commenced to give ground to the field and was not persevered with from the 250m. Thereafter, Jockey C Habib reported that he felt something amiss with IN THE RED in the straight, and that this gelding made an abnormal respiratory noise in the pull up area. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. c) Approaching the 900m LADY JEAN (C Little) was steadied on a number of occasions when awkwardly placed on the inside of FREE ROAMING (C Zackey) and close to the heels of SPIRIT OF GABZ (S Moodley) which commenced to give ground. Consequentially, FREE ROAMING (C Zackey) was carried out by LADY JEAN (C Little) which was directed out away from the heels of SPIRIT OF GABZ (S Moodley). d) SPIRIT OF GABZ (S Moodley) was not persevered with from the 400m. Thereafter, Jockey S Moodley reported that he felt something amiss with SPIRIT OF GABZ in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. e) ERIK DUBOIS (K de Melo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer L W Goosen was advised (MM).
