Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) STRAIGHT RED was stubborn loading. b) GREY WARRIOR, OSMIUM and LUCA DA WHEELS were nervous in the stalls. c) LEIF ERIKSON jumped awkwardly and made contact with the left-side front gate leaving the stalls. d) NIGHT IN JAPAN jumped awkwardly inwards and was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. (12h57) b) Permission was granted for STRAIGHT RED (MK Katjedi) to be assisted by a lead pony when proceeding to the start. c) Shortly after the start, SATELLITE WORLD and STRAIGHT RED made slight contact. d) LUCA DA WHEELS and NIGHT IN JAPAN over raced in the early and middle stages. e) EXPLOSIVE GIFT raced awkwardly into and had difficulty negotiating the first turn. f) STRAIGHT RED was hanging in from the 300m and was corrected at the 100m. g) EXPLOSIVE GIFT was hanging out from the 250m. h) In view of the performance of LEIF ERIKSON (Betting 3/1; Distance 18.45 lengths), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. i) Jockey C Zackey was charged with a contravention of Rule 55.4 in that he failed to weigh out at the carded weight on LEIF ERIKSON, or at the higher weight confirmed in his engagement with the Trainer. Jockey C Zackey signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined R1000.00. j) MISSOURI FLAME, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer K Mitchley was advised.
