Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) ACTION AMERICA was nervous in the stalls. b) HELIOTROPE was nervous in the stalls and fly-jumped leaving the stalls, losing one length. c) GEORGE HANDEL and TWENTY DRACHMA'S jumped slow, losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. (14h11) b) HELIOTROPE over raced in the early and middle stages. c) HOLLANDIA BAKKERIJ shifted out away from the crop at the 250m. d) RICHARDTHEFEARLESS shifted inwards shortly before the finish and made contact with MAKHACHEV. In this incident, the hindquarters of MAKHACHEV were turned inwards. e) Trainer Z Oosthuizen was questioned regarding the improved performance of RICHARDTHEFEARLESS. He explained to the Board that this gelding had run below form on 12 December 2025. He had taken bloods but had found nothing amiss. As a consequence, he had changed tactics and instructed the Rider to tuck this gelding in and see if he would run on in his race on the 3rd of April 2026, but there had been no improvement. For today's race, Trainer Oosthuizen had therefore removed the blinkers, had instructed the Rider to race in a handy position and he had been expecting an improved run. It is his intention to race this gelding without blinkers and using the same tactics in future engagements. His explanation was noted. f) MAKHACHEV, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer K Mitchley was advised. (LM) FURTHER JOCKEY CHANGES/OVERWEIGHTS: a) R Fourie (CURTISS CONDOR) rode +0.5kg. (56.5kgs) THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) HEEMSTEDE - brush wound left hind. b) TWENTY DRACHMA'S - blowing post-race. c) CURTISS CONDOR - deep abrasions left and right hind. Scalp wound right hind. Stirrup rub right-hand side. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS.
