Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) STRAIGHT RED was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) All horses selected for TCO2 were within the required levels and no retests were recorded. (13h05) b) Permission was granted for STRAIGHT RED and SABRAGE to be assisted by a lead pony when proceeding to the start. c) Shortly after the start, GOOD COMPANY raced awkwardly for a number of strides and Apprentice W Fourie immediately eased this filly out of the race. GOOD COMPANY was attended to on course by the Veterinarian. d) On entering the straight, SABRAGE shifted outwards and raced in isolation parallel to the outside running rail. e) GIMME THE BEST was hanging in from the 250m. f) OSMIUM had to steady momentarily to avoid running onto the heels of TRIP TO PEACE, which shifted inwards shortly before the finish line. Jockey C Little appeared before the Board and was advised to straighten his mounts timeously when shifting ground in future. g) TRIP TO PEACE shifted inwards and made slight contact with SATELLITE WORLD shortly after the finish. An objection was lodged by the Rider of the 2nd-placed SATELLITE WORLD against the 1st-placed TRIP TO PEACE on the grounds of intimidation in the latter stages. The Objection Board gave regard to the evidence and reviewed the patrol film. Despite the 0.05 margin between the two horses concerned, the Objection Board was of the opinion that no intimidation took place as contact between these two horses occurred 1.50 lengths after the finish. The Board was satisfied that SATELLITE WORLD would not have finished ahead of TRIP TO PEACE. Despite this gelding shifting ground, there had been no intimidation in the latter stages and therefore overruled the Objection. Jockey Y Ramzan's deposit was forfeited and he was fined a further R3000.00 in terms of Rule 67.7.3. h) TRIP TO PEACE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Stable Employee Y Thuthu, acting on behalf of Trainer JP Nel, was advised. (LM) THE VETERINARIAN REPORTED: a) GREY WARRIOR - examined post-race. Coughing. b) LUCA DA WHEELS - choked up. c) MEDITERRANEANFLAME - coughing. d) GOOD COMPANY - fractured right front fetlock. Humanely euthanised. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS.
