THE START OF THIS RACE WAS DELAYED DUE TO THE DELAY IN THE PREVIOUS RACE, THE LEFT FRONT SHOE ON HOTARUBI (S KHUMALO) HAVING TO ATTENDED TO BY THE COURSE FARRIER AND MASTER CHRISTMAS (K A BREWER) PROVING STUBBORN LOADING. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) MASTER CHRISTMAS (K A Brewer) was stubborn loading. Stable Employee N Houdalakis, acting on behalf of Trainer M N Houdalakis, was advised to reschool this gelding prior to his next engagement (PHvdW). b) ROYAL EDITION (N Klink) jumped outwards leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Jockey P Mxoli, the rider of RADICCHIO, accidentally dropped his crop at the 100m. b) Jockey S Khumalo reported that he felt something amiss with HOTARUBI in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. Trainer S G Tarry was requested to report back to the Stipendiary Board on the condition of HOTARUBI on return to stables c) TAMARISK TREE (M Yeni), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer R R Sage advised (MS). JOCKEY CHANGES: a) TAMARISK TREE: Jockey M Yeni weighed out at 51,1kg, 1kg over the carded weight of which 0.5kg was declared. b) MASTER CHRISTMAS: Jockey K A Brewer weighed out at 51,6kg, 1.5 kg over the carded weight of which 1kg was declared. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: None. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) HOTARUBI examined post race, nothing obvious detected.
