THE STARTER REPORTED: a) EARL (*G Pieterse) lost three lengths and thereafter was slow into stride. Stable employee G Nosasa acting on behalf of Trainer S Tarry will be advised to re-school this gelding. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) RUN TO DENMARK (G Wright) failed to parade in front of the grandstand. Assistant Trainer B Forster will be advised that should this gelding behave similarly in future it may be suspended. b) At approximately the 1800m, SUNDAY ISLAND (AUS) (W Kennedy) was steadied momentarily in anticipation of ARUMUGAM (T Godden) rolling inwards. The Board was satisfied that ARUMUGAM (T Godden) was sufficiently clear of SUNDAY ISLAND (AUS) (W Kennedy). c) EARL (*G Pieterse) after being slow away, raced detached from the field in the early and middle stages and thereafter finished its race off strongly. d) In view of performance of FIGHT SONG (C Habib) (10.45 lengths, 11/2 in the betting) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. e) SUNDAY ISLAND (AUS) (W Kennedy), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
