THE STARTER REPORTED: a) CONTIGUOUS (R Fourie) and ROYAL AUSSIE (G van Niekerk) were restless in the stalls. b) DOWNING SEVEN (S Cele) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) HORSEY (S Khumalo) raced awkwardly on the early and middle part of the bend. b) From a wide draw, ROYAL AUSSIE (G van Niekerk) was unable to secure a position close to the inside running rail and was ridden forward to lead from the 800m. c) QUATERMAIN (C Zackey) was momentarily inconvenienced when close to the heels of FEDERAL RESERVE (C Orffer) leaving the 50m. d) Jockey R Fourie reported that CONTIGUOUS felt uncomfortable in his action and failed to respond to his urgings in the straight. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this colt. e) ROYAL AUSSIE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer C Snaith, acting on behalf of Trainer SJ Snaith, was advised. (CvA) f) PAS DE NOM, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
