Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) BONIKA (G Cheyne) and SPYWING (C Orffer) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) This race was delayed as a result of the delay in the previous race. b) Shortly after the start, BONIKA (G Cheyne) and CAMILLE CLAUDEL (A Domeyer) were inconvenienced on the outside of FUN ZONE (S Khumalo), which shifted out and had to be straightened. Shortly thereafter, FUN ZONE (S Khumalo) raced onto the heels of CIAO BELLA (K de Melo) and had to be steadied. c) CAMILLE CLAUDEL (A Domeyer) raced without cover until leaving the 1200m and, as a consequence, over raced in the early stages. d) In view of the performance of CAMILLE CLAUDEL, which was examined at the start at the request of Jockey A Domeyer and which was not persevered with from the 150m, the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this filly. e) Jockey R Fourie was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking MISS MARGUERITE more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey R Fourie signed an admission of guilt and was fined R1500,00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account the distance over and manner in which Jockey R Fourie used his crop and the number of strikes (14) over the permissible level. f) BONIKA, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer D McLachlan, acting on behalf of Trainer GS Kotzen, was advised. Passed suitable to race b) CAMILLE CLAUDEL - examined post-race. Nothing obvious detected. Trainer C Bass-Robinson was requested to report back should she find anything amiss with this filly on her return to the stables. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS
