THE STARTER REPORTED: a) WILLIAMTHEFIGHTER (W Kennedy) was restless in the stalls. b) ALWAYS BETTER (K Matsunyane) reared as the start was effected, resulting in this gelding losing two lengths. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) At approximately the 600m, ALWAYS BETTER (K Matsunyane) was steadied and switched out to avoid the heels of LOVE ME AGAIN (*G Pieterse), which rolled in. b) BLYDE RIVER (J Mariba) commenced to give ground to the field from the 250m. Thereafter, Jockey J Mariba reported that he felt something amiss with BLYDE RIVER in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this colt. c) Jockey R Munger reported that he felt something amiss with RED HOT in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. d) CAPTAIN PERSIA (K de Melo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer J J van Vuuren advised (LN). When questioned regarding the improved performance of CAPTAIN PERSIA, Trainer J J van Vuuren explained to the Board that, in his opinion, this gelding had benefitted from his run on 12 May 2022, following a long layoff. e) LOVE ME AGAIN (*G Pieterse), placed second, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer A Peter, acting on behalf of Trainer P A Peter, was advised (MduP). f) BLYDE RIVER (J Mariba), unplaced, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer B B Ruiters advised (LK). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) CAPTAIN PERSIA raced without a tongue tie (declared 30 June 2022 at 08H49).
