Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SIR TALLIN (C Habib) was slow losing one length. b) ORUS APOLLO (J R Syster) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) At approximately the 1400M, SECRET IS OURS (*G Pieterse) which proved difficult to settle in the early stage, was carried out by QUATTRO PASSI (K de Melo) which commenced to over-race. b) SIR TALLIN (C Habib) hung out in the concluding stages. c) In view of the performance of SECRET IS OURS (*G Pieterse), (betting 9/2, distance 5,75 lengths), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) Apprentice G Pieterse the rider of SECRET IS OURS did not persevere with his riding in the concluding stages. Apprentice Pieterse appeared before the Board accompanied by the National Riding Master Mr R Moore and was questioned with regards to his riding of SECRET IS OURS and with particular reference to his riding in the concluding stages. As Apprentice Pieterse could not provide the Board with any plausible explanation other than that SECRET IS OURS proved difficult to settle in the early stages, he was offered and signed an Admission of Guilt for a contravention of Rule 62.2.3 in that he failed to ride the horse SECRET IS OURS out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The Board imposed a penalty of a fine of R1000. When assessing the penalty, the Board took into consideration the proximity from the finish that Apprentice Pieterse stopped riding as well as his clean record with regards to this nature of contravention of the Rules. e) ELECTRIC GOLD (M Yeni), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer A Peter advised (LK). JOCKEY CHANGES: a) SIR TALLIN was ridden by Jockey C Habib. b) HUMBLE TUNE was ridden by Jockey C Zackey. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: None. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) SECRET IS OURS sore left flank. b) ORUS APOLLO bilateral nasal discharge. SCRATCHED: a) ASHANTI SWORD coughing (Trainer) (Rule 53.5 applies).
