Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) PEDRO (*G Pieterse) broke through the front gates, was restrained by the rider, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon, declared fit to race and reloaded. b) TRAFALGAR SQUARE (*M Katjedi) broke open the front gates, restrained by the handler, was removed, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and was reloaded. c) IRON BARK (*M Zuma) was restless in the stalls. d) PRINCE TYRION (*C Dicken), TWO OF US (*D Geerthsen) and PEDRO (*G Pieterse) were stubborn to load. e) SIR POM (M Mjoka), PRINCE TYRION (*C Dicken), TWO OF US (*D Geerthsen) and LIVE MY LIFE (S Veale) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) At the 250m, HAPPY WANDERER (J P v'd Merwe) which rolled in, was steadied off the heels of HAMPTON COURT (M Yeni) which was hanging out from the 300m, proving difficult to assist and rolled out. As a result, HAPPY WANDERER (J P v'd Merwe) and TRAFALGAR SQUARE (*M Katjedi) brushed. Thereafter, HAPPY WANDERER (J P v'd Merwe) and TRAFALGAR SQUARE (*M Katjedi) were carried out on two occasions by HAMPTON COURT (M Yeni) which continued to shift out. A race review was called by a member of the Stipendiary Board with regard to this incident which was followed by an objection lodged by Jockey J v'd Merwe on behalf of the second placed horse HAPPY WANDERER against the winner, HAMPTON COURT (M Yeni) on the grounds of interference from the 300m. After considering the evidence in this matter, the Board overruled the objection. In arriving at this decision, the Board considered the relative finishing efforts of the horses involved, the extent of the interference and the distance between these 2 horses at the finish. Consequently, the Board could not be satisfied that but for the above incident, HAPPY WANDERER would have finished ahead of HAMPTON COURT. Therefore, it overruled the objection and allowed the Judge's result to stand. Jockey J v'd Merwe's deposit was refunded. b) An Inquiry will be opened in order to establish why YATA (*S Hlengwa) had to ease at the 100m. c) HAMPTON COURT (M Yeni), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer D S Bosch advised (NS). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) PRINCE TYRION raced with a compression mask. b) HAPPY WANDERER raced with alumites in front, unshod behind (advised 30.06.22/13h51). c) NAMAQUA DOVE Jockey S Mbhele weighed out at 52.7kg, 0.5kg over the carded weight of 52kg. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER : a) Nil. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED : a) SIR POM : Brush wound right hind. b) TRAFALGAR SQUARE : Cut in left nostril (starting stall injury). c) PEDRO : Cut in right and left nostril (starting stall injury). THE MEDICAL OFFICER REPORTED : a) Apprentice G Pieterse was examined after the running of this Race:- bruised right shoulder. Unable to continue riding. Dr Pillay. Rule 25.12 does not apply. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: a) None
