Stipes Report

THE STARTER REPORTED:  
a)	BLACK THORN (K de Melo) lost two lengths. 
  
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED :
a)	BLACK THORN (K de Melo) over-raced in the early stages. 
b)	Jockey G van Niekerk reported that he felt something amiss with CHOLLIMA and as a result he did not persevere with his ride from the 350m. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. 
c)	Jockey W Kennedy signed an admission of guilt for Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he mis-used his crop by striking the horse SHANGANI more than 12 times in the entire race. In assessing penalty, the Board considered the number of times (13) Jockey Kennedy struck the horse SHANGANI, the distance over which and manner in which he used his crop, the status of the race and his record (0) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R10 000 was imposed.
d)	Jockey S Veale signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse REX UNION more than 12 times in the entire race. When determining the penalty, the Stewards considered that this was Jockey S Veale's 23rd  transgression of Rule 58.10.2 (Guideline M) since 1 August 2021 and his 3rd offence inside the preceding 60 days period. Accordingly, a fine of R3500 and a suspension from riding at two KZN Racemeetings were imposed. (Suspension dates to be advised) 
e)	The riders returned to scale on an average of between 0.50kg and 1kg above the weight at which they were declared out at due to the weather conditions during the running of this Race. 
f)	SHANGANI (W Kennedy), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.  Trainer P A Peter advised (RVR).
g)	IMPERIAL RUBY (C Zackey), placed second, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Spies advised (RVR).
h)	REX UNION (S Veale), placed third, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.  Trainer D Kannemeyer advised (DZ).
