Stipes Report

THE STARTER REPORTED:
a)	HEPHAESTUS (Wes Marwing) was stubborn loading. The starting stall certificate for this gelding has been withdrawn. Trainer D C Pretorius was advised (GT).	

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a)	FEATHER BOA (K Matsunyane) and FUTUREWOLFF (C Habib) came together and brushed leaving the stalls. 
b)	RAFFLES (G Lerena), which jumped inwards leaving the stalls, had its hindquarters turned outwards when making contact with MERIDIUS (R Munger). 
c)	HEPHAESTUS (Wes Marwing), jumped awkwardly outwards leaving the stalls, was slow away and lost ground to the field. HEPHAESTUS, being unable to make up the deficit, raced detached from the field and upon leaving the 600m, tired and commenced to hang in badly resulting in the bit slipping through this colt's mouth, rendering Jockey Wes Marwing unable to assist HEPHAESTUS out to the end of the race. 
d)	When questioned regarding his ride on MERIDIUS, Jockey R Munger explained to the Board that it was his intention to race with cover, from off the pace, and to track FEATHER BOA (K Matsunyane) throughout the race.  However, as the field came off the false rail, FEATHER BOA (K Matsunyane) made her run on the inside of the track, and he was caught on the outside of RAFFLES (G Lerena) and raced exposed on the outside of the field which resulted in him not being able to execute his original plan.  He then rode this colt with enough in reserve to ensure that he finished his race off strongly. Jockey R Munger's explanation was corroborated by the Patrol Film.
e)	Jockey G Lerena reported that RAFFLES made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. 
The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this colt. 	
f)	In view of the Starter's report with regard to HEPHAESTUS, this colt's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and he is suspended in terms of Rule 61.6.10 for a period of 7 days and until such time as he proves tractable loading with a companion. 
Suspension dates: 5 August 2022 to 11 August 2022.  HEPHAESTUS may not be presented for re-passing during this period. Trainer D C Pretorius was advised.  		
g)	FEATHER BOA (K Matsunyane), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.

JOCKEY CHANGES:
a)	FUTUREWOLFF was ridden by	Jockey C Habib (declared 3 August 2022 at 15H50).	

RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER:
a)	FUTUREWOLFF raced without blinkers (declared 1 August 2022 at 10H06).		

THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED:
a)	RAFFLES blowing post race.
