Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) GOLDEN GRACE (R Khathi) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) SUGAR SNAP (S Khumalo) and LADY SHEEVA (*KA Brewer) brushed at the 400m. b) Jockey S Khumalo reported that SUGAR SNAP changed stride continually in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this filly. c) Apprentice RA Venniker reported that MANSOORIYA made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this filly. d) Trainer GD Smith appeared before the Board and was questioned regarding the improved performance of ESHRAAQ (Y Ramzan). He stated that the filly had been disappointing in her last run and he could offer no reason for that poor performance. He decided to give this filly a rest which, in his opinion, had accounted for the improved performance today. The Board noted his explanation. e) Apprentice RA Venniker was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that she misused her crop by striking MANSOORIYA more than 12 times in the entire race. Apprentice RA Venniker signed an admission of guilt and was fined R750,00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account the distance over and manner in which Apprentice RA Venniker used her crop and the number of strikes (13) over the permissible level. f) ESHRAAQ, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer GD Smith was advised.
