Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) STRAWBERRY LIGHT (R Munger) and THE AGENTS MUSE (D Ashby) jumped slow, losing one length and thereafter were slow into stride. b) CHIQUITA BANANA (L Tarentaal) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Leaving the 300m THE AGENTS MUSE (D Ashby), which commenced to give ground to the field, rolled in and had to be steadied away from the heels of CHIQUITA BANANA (L Tarentaal). Thereafter, Jockey D Ashby reported that THE AGENTS MUSE did not stride out freely in running and he did not persevere with his riding in the latter stages. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this filly. b) Leaving the 200m Jockey S Khumalo (I'LL SLIP AWAY) hesitated with his riding when racing tight on the inside of CHILILABOMBWE (O Noach). c) At the 150m ST KITTS (C Habib) had to be steadied and lost momentum when tightened for galloping room between COASTAL BLUES (C Orffer) and STRAWBERRY LIGHT (R Munger), which raced green and rolled out while attempting to secure clear running on the outside of CHILILABOMBWE (O Noach). Jockey R Munger appeared before the Board and was advised to take more care in similar circumstances. d) In the concluding stages CHILILABOMBWE (O Noach), which raced green, shifted out sharply away from I'LL SLIP AWAY (S Khumalo) and had to be steadied away from the heels of BY ROYAL COMMAND (C Bantam) at the finish. e) The Stewards reviewed the previous run of BY ROYAL COMMAND on 8 June 2022 over 1200m. The filly had shown pace, had raced handy on that occasion and had tired quickly from the 200m. The Stewards were satisfied that this filly had been ridden on merit and Trainer GR Puller will be questioned regarding the improvement shown today. f) Jockey S Khumalo was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking I'LL SLIP AWAY more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey S Khumalo signed an admission of guilt and was fined R2000,00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account the distance over and manner in which Jockey S Khumalo used his crop and the number of strikes (13) over the permissible level. g) BY ROYAL COMMAND, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer GR Puller was advised. (SC) h) HELEN'S LEGACY, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Stable Employee R Barrett, acting on behalf of Trainer JMT Stewart, was advised.
