THE STARTER REPORTED: a) DOUBLE DUTY (Y Ramzan) was stubborn loading. b) POTENTE (S Khumalo) stood awkwardly in the stalls. c) STEPDANCE (X Ndlovu) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) After being slow away STEPDANCE (X Ndlovu) failed to muster speed and raced detached from the field throughout. b) In the concluding stages SIBERIAN FOX (C Habib) was carried out marginally by POTENTE (S Khumalo), which hung out from the 300m, proving difficult to assist. c) Apprentice P Mxoli was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking RUSSIAN EMPIRE more than 12 times in the entire race. Apprentice P Mxoli signed an admission of guilt and was fined R1500,00. In determining penalty, the Board took into account the distance over and manner in which Apprentice P Mxoli used his crop, the number of strikes (13) and RUSSIAN EMPIRE's finishing position. d) RUSSIAN EMPIRE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer E Kaknis was advised.
