Race 1: WELCOME TO NELSON MANDELA BAY RACING MAIDEN PLATE (F & M) (For Maiden Fillies and Mares)

THE STARTER REPORTED:

a)	ITS ONLYMONEYHONEY (M Mjoka) and RED SPHERE (S Khumalo) refused to load, causing a delay.
b)	LOVIN' YOU BABY (R Munger) was nervous in the stalls.
c)	DUCHESS OF AFRICA (*R Venniker) and DREAM SCAPE (F Herholdt) were nervous in the stalls and jumped slow, losing one length.
d)	REALISTIC WONDER (Y Ramzan) jumped slow, losing one length.

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: 

a)	KAROO MAGIC (X Ndlovu) raced green.
b)	When questioned, Jockey R Munger told the Stewards that his instructions were to ride LOVIN'YOU BABY as he felt her responding in the race. As such, from his extreme inside draw, he had maintained a position on the inside of the racecourse. He added that he had raced on the extreme inside without cover until the middle stages, where the filly had commenced to hang out and he was positioned behind other runners in the closing stages. He told the Stewards that this filly would be better over further than sprint races and that she was doing her best work in the closing stages. The Stewards told Mr Munger that this report would be recorded but he has to ride with sufficient vigour and determination so as to leave no room for query from the Stewards.
c)	In view of the performance of REALISTIC WONDER (Y Ramzan), which progressively gave ground to the field throughout, the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this filly.
d)	Jockey S Khathi was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking AIMEE'S IDOL more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey S Khathi signed an admission of guilt and was suspended for 7 days (24/09/2022 to 30/09/2022 both dates inclusive). In determining penalty, the Board took into account the distance over and manner in which Jockey S Khathi used his crop, his recent record, the number of strikes (14) and that AIMEE'S IDOL was having her first race.
e) 	In view of the report from the Starter regarding ITS ONLYMONEYHONEY (M Mjoka), this mare's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and she is suspended for 30 days in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as she proves to be tractable with a companion. Suspension dates: 24/09/2022 to 24/10/2022 inclusive). In assessing this suspension, the Stewards determined that even though the mare was carded to make her race debut, she had not been passed tractable on multiple occasions prior to her obtaining her starting stall certificate on 19th September 2022. ITS ONLYMONEYHONEY may not be presented for re-passing during this period.
f)	In view of the report from the Starter regarding RED SPHERE (S Khumalo), this filly's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and she is suspended for 14 days in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as she proves to be tractable with a companion. Suspension dates: 24/09/2022 to 07/10/2022 inclusive). RED SPHERE may not be presented for re-passing during this period.
g)	GLASS SHOES, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SB Kotzen was advised. (LM)
